Prior to that he was an award winning newspaper reporter and is currently a very prolific writer. He’ll discuss his 13th book, “The Texas Rangers: Wearing the Cinco Peso, 1821-1900”.

Eddie Melin - 5/6/08, 5/10/08 and 5/11/08
If it has anything to do with the Amarillo Arts Community, Eddie Melin organized it, built it or saved it from being destroyed. He was instrumental in rescuing the Amarillo Symphony, developing the Amarillo Museum of Art, locating the space for the Pioneer Ampitheater in Palo Duro Canyon, building the downtown library – and even broadcast the first weather report on Amarillo television.

Scott McCown - 4/22/08, 4/26/08 and 4/27/08
Texas Monthly magazine calls Dumas native, Scott McCown, the “voice of the voiceless” and “the conscience of Texas politics.” McCown retired as a state district judge in 2002 to become Executive Director of the Center for Public Policy Priorities and formerly presided over all Texas Public School Finance cases from 1990 to 2002 and thousands of child abuse cases.

Charles Warford - 4/15/08, 4/19/08 and 4/20/08
Longtime Amarillo funeral director, Charles Warford, remembers living through many social injustices because of his race. In the 1930’s he attended segregated Amarillo schools where, he says, books were scarce and the only athletic equipment available were hand-me-downs from all-white Amarillo High School. But those are not the only experiences that define Warford, who also served in the Navy during WWII, crossing the Atlantic 12 times.

Rory Schepisi - 4/8/08, 4/12/08 and 4/13/08
How does one get from Saddle River, New Jersey to Vega, Texas? By way of reality television of course. At least that’s how Rory Schepisi became on of Vega’s most popular citizens and the proud owner of the Panhandle community’s newest restaurant, Boot Hill.

Bishop Leroy Matthiesen - 4/1/08, 4/5/08 and 4/6/08
Former Bishop of the Diocese of Amarillo, Reverend Bishop Leroy Matthiesen is well known for his outspoken opposition during the 1980’s against the work being done at the Pantex Plant. Today the Bishop is retired and has a book – much of it coming from his weekly columns that appeared through the years in the West Texas Catholic called Wise and Otherwise.
